All systems have to use either an AM or FM bandwith and all companies convert the frequencies into digital format through Frequency Shift Keying, Pulse Code Modulation,or through a micro processor. To keep it simple you need a radio frequency to dispath from the wire for the receiver to activate. Actually almost all systems now are digital. Just to keep it real, most less expensive retail systems now are digital and are micro processor controlled, therefore digital.
